Nurburgring Grand Prix Recap

Hello from Deutschland,
GASCAR kicked off its 6th season in style Friday night. Top started from the pole and spent most of his time there. The field gingerly rolled through the first corner attempting to avoid damaging incidents. After starting in 5th, Viking pulled along Ford who won the race to lead the first lap. Over the first six laps, Ford lead followed closely by Viking and then Top with never more than a second in between. Viking made numerous passes on Ford during those laps but was never able to be in front at the line. Eventually, Viking and Top swapped spots and Top's Saab was able to get around Ford and drive to a comfortable lead. The race continued rather uneventfully for a handful of laps as pit stops cycled through. The general running order at this time was Top, Ford, Viking, Roadie, Mini, Super, Proof, and Trigga. Around lap 18, everyone had been in the pits besides Super who lead the field. In a possible attempt to help his teammate, Super and Top got together, sending Top spinning and eliminating his gigantic lead on Ford. Ford got around Top at this time and held the lead for a few laps. On lap 23, the leaders were within seconds of the slow car of Trigga. The leader ran down the backstretch to find Trigga upside down in the Chicane bringing out the first caution of the race. The field now bunched up during the caution and was brought to the line by Ford. During the restart, Viking got a jump and moved around Top and outbroke Ford into the first corner. Coming around to the next corner Top took back the lead, then another caution came out. The field was lead by Top back to the finish line to start the race with 2 laps to go. Top's Saab got a decent jump and held a steady lead. Viking followed in second when Top went wide in the second corner giving the lead to Viking for a split second before Viking was shoved just enough to lose momentum and allow Top back out front. Ford took advantage and moved to Viking's right through the hairpin. Viking held the outside and maintained his position going into the next corner when much cursing ensued. In collision that was no one's fault, Ford and Viking washed up the track allowing Mini and Roadie into second and third, respectively. Roadie got around Mini on the backstretch. Top pulled to a comfortable lead during the madness. On the last lap, Viking barreled through the Chicane and got a run on Mini through the last corner. Racing to the line Mini's car held 3rd place by 30 ft until 100 yards from the line when Viking started to gain. Top crossed the line first, followed by Roadie. Mini beat Viking to the line by 3 feet for third, Ford followed in 5th, with Super in 6th, and Proof in 7th. Trigga in his comeback had an awful race coming back in last place. After the race, Ford said many bad words and threatening things to Viking.

Final Running Order:
1st - Top* - 10
2nd - Roadie - 7
3rd - Mini - 6
4th - Viking - 5
5th - Ford* - 5
6th - Super* - 4
7th - Proof - 2
8th - Trigga - 1
*indicated lap lead, one point bonus

  1. Include in the story the name of the driver's car occassionally. Or list them somewhere.

  2. Um, Bad, look left. Except Top and I used the Saab 99 instead of the Porsche. The decision was made before qualifying and race one so we still have one car choice left. Also, Roadie and Proof used an old Supra.
