Might as well give Top the championship. I know the designers for this season weren't worried about it being competitive. But could've made the intended results a little less obvious. Shakeups aplenty next season.

Overreaction above, ignore that.

  1. Here's some ideas to start thinking about.

With the new points system how about no award for the pole? Instead, give 3 points to the leader of the first laps. And then just the normal 1 point for leading bonus. This increases racing and still awards the top qualifier.

Also, I think we should do away with the one change per season rule. We want people to stay intrigued and competitive. Why not let them change as many times as they want to increase competition and participation?

  2. I don't think any points are awarded for pole. I would like to see more car changes though.

  3. No points are awarded for pole, we could increase/drop the car changes. We never had them in the old days but then people started to abused them. During the 2010 spring season many of us had 4+ car changes that's when the idea was started.

Also I hope you crossed your original post out because you found out I didn't win. Beck had the GREATEST strategy in GASCAR history tonight. Applause to him.

    2. The whole 3 points for the first lap thing just sounds super interesting. Who'll be stupid. Who won't, who hangs back, who causes an accident and gets everyone pissed at them? (Spoiler its ford). I'd like to officially push it to the rules committee. Viking, mini, top, ford, and proof vote. I vote in favor of it.

    3. No. I don't want some stupid mad dash to turn one that destroys cars for the rest of the race.

    4. Okay, the cars that at this point aren't even within 5 seconds of each other for most of the race.

    5. Why is 4 car changes + a bad thing?

    6. There is nothing wrong with cars changes but there should be a price. Two free car changes should be plenty.

    7. What do you mean greatest strat? Was I the only one to consider the two stop? And Viking: I like the direction you're going with the team name. I don't particularly like "SpeedNorth" but our Northern roots and our quickness need to be mentioned within. Northern Lighting comes from the top of my head.

    8. I two stopped but didn't space them well and almost sorta had a caution......

@mini Why should there be a price on car changes? As you said there is nothing wrong with them.

    9. @Beck I think you might be the first person in the drag tire era to successfully give up the lead, pit a second time and then drive back to the front and win. It's been tried before but never worked.

    10. @Top Fuel Okay. That makes more sense. To be honest I really wasn't expecting to come out with the win. Over at /r/redditracing we had the GTE which ran on drag tires and typically those who ran less stops ended up winning the race. I was resigned to taking 3rd once I pitted on lap 25/26 after seeing the disaster I was facing if I tried to only pit once, but I guess it was for the best after all.

    11. Agree with Stop, I don't see the problem with multiple car changes. I don't have the time to properly tune so I just run the best things I've found once the clock runs out and the race starts. It keeps everyone on there toes and increase participation

  4. Also, truly believe Top has gotten to the point where it is very difficult to fairly run with him. Look at the championships lately for verification

  5. I'd like a no teaming with someone you've already teamed with rule. If not no teams at all

  6. The car selection feels limited.

  7. Or people could work on their cars.

I spent a lot of time, after the car list was published, working on cars. My car list is littered with shit builds for this class. I was about to declare another car when I heard Ford's lap times for the Solstice. I knew we were screwed so I went back to work. That is when I found the M1.

I propose the following: scoring stays the same, 2 penalty free car changes be allowed, first place in points runs 480 pi, wins from first in points still face a 5% power penalty, and teaming be allowed. I do not want to dictate who can team with whom.

  8. Also considering Vin and Terminator have not showed up, I am releasing the 1969 Camaro. And any other dibs from people who have not raced.

  9. I'm not attacking, I'm suggesting

  10. Here's an idea I need to flesh out,but I think we have the infrastructure to support it now. What of we come up with some kind of contract for your dibs. You can call dibs like normal but you only get that car for ~10 races. Every race you win takes 2 weeks off the contract. 1 week off for second. So if Top is dominating and wins 2 races then the car goes up on waivers. Where the lowest in points gets a shot to claim it first... (Not sure how it works with teammates...)

I think this is kinda neat. Thoughts?

    1. I don't think teams should necessarily have to drive the same car. Do it if you can or want to

  11. Or we could wait and see how things shake out plus the changes I mentioned above. If we need to neuter Top a bit as we gave done with DJ, we can think about that as it will be two weeks before the next race.

For this series, I don't want to force car changes upon people.

The extra time will give people a chance to tune or change cars. I was traveling nearly all of last week for work and sent Top a change to the tune(which I am willing to help anyone with btw, and always have been. I built and tuned Roadie's Ford GT.) and his times dropped significantly. I made the change based on his feedback from the last race. Which is the purpose of having a teammate. To help each other, not just have matching paint.

All of that said, Top still hasn't won a race this season.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I know hasn't won. But he and DJ were significantly faster last week. And according to lap times called out during the race was .5 seconds faster than the next closest. So that's what I gotta add to that.

I don't necessarily wanna force any rule changes this season (except car changes) but am forwarding ideas to think about and begin to pick apart.

I just think my thing has always been to increase competition introducing new ideas to keep the racing close, innovatively, maybe with a small sacrifice in integrity. And that isn't this season. I hope I'm not coming off as attacking and accusatory cause that isn't what I'm going for. I'm going for fun!

    1. Maybe no point deduction for changes but instead starting from the back of the pack?

    2. Maybe the previous weeks winner should start at the back? Interesting storyline there....

  13. I would like to unlimited car changes, without any DIBS. There is no need to have a monopoly on a car.

Also would like a a PI bump for those at the bottom of the standings. We need to have more folks competing near the same level, to at least give the dominate drivers a challenge on the pavement.

  14. im ok with the car changes to keep everyone on there toes but i think we had a very competitive race , had i drove better i could have ran just as fast as top at that track. beck was great and instink was all over me just bad stratgy on alot of peoples parts, and viking, im planning a wedding working and taking care of a 2 year old sooo you have no excuse

    ReplyDelete
  15. u dont want unlimited car changes. at that point we might as well do a spec series with all of us in the same car

    ReplyDelete
  16. and everyone stop being anonymous post a name if u want a opionon

  17. I don't understand the dislike for car changes. We are currently penalizing effort.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i dont dislike changes i think there should be a limit and no using the same car cus we will all copy each other and thats dumb

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, dibs still need to exist. But if someone wants to make a run for a championship or try something crazy I think we should encourage that. Not say well if you do we are gonna take points away. Start in the back for every car change besides your first.

  20. I suggest a cooling off period until Sept. 22. I am on vacation anyway. We can come up with some tweaks next week that might not seem reactionary.
