Hi all, while blogspot has served us well it has felt to be leaving for awhile. Top and I have been working on developing a subreddit for GASCAR's new home. We are currently in the development phase and pretending we know how to code. Anyone know CSS? There are a few neat things we have planned and excited to unviel. More news to come shortly.

Car Dibs Request

Another petition by Viking.

I should be allowed to use the 97 Mazda RX7. I was building cars based off the spreadsheet like everyone else. Saw that the 97 Mazda RX 7 was on there. Invested time and energy into building the car. Happy with it and went to declare my dibs when I was informed that Beck already had it even though he was listed as having the 90 Mazda Rx 7 and on the site right to the right there his dib doesn't have a year marked. Due to the poor maintenance from Mini and Top I beleive I should be able to drive the RX7 too. At least for this race since that was the car I put all my time into. I suppose I could team with Beck if he is up for it. Hell I'll the with anybody. Give me a good car I can get it on the podium. But really,I should get to drive the Rx 7 due to clerical error.

Wells Fargo 27 Race Recap

The MS Surface GASCAR Series for Fall 2013 started last night with 12 drivers being able to tear themselves away from rehashing "Breaking Bad" and sorting out their internet connections. There were some notable absences but I can't be bothered to deal with those people right now. They all got their 8 points for their first missed race though, the end.

Back to the action on the track at the 2.24 mile Nurburgring GP Short circuit. Qualifying shook out with Top Fuel Man capturing the pole position. As usual, DJ was right on his tail. Newcomer BeckX from redditracing was in third.

After the lights went out and the field rumbled down to turn one there was talk of five wide action heading into the hairpin right hander. This writer didn't see that action as he was going wide and trying not to kill Instink's 79 Camaro. There was a few tussles in the opening lap before the field settled down.

Frankly, other than DJ and Top battling for the lead it was a rather boring caution free race. (It's probably a good thing as Teeter passed out on lap 3 having reached into his 12 pack of Natty Light early.) Everyone drove quite hard but it proved difficult to make up ground on other drivers. BeckX and Instink managed to lead a lap each during the position shuffle due to pit stops.

DJ drove his 1995 Mustang at ten tenths for the the whole race and forced Top Fuel to use up the tires on his BMW M1 on his way to the way. Finishing order with credit for laps led is below.

The next race, at Maple Valley Reverse, is TBD depending Ford or Top hosting while MINI is on vacation.

GASCAR Fall 2013 Series Premiere Race Time Announcement

After finally securing funding to pay track safety workers(Well, okay, one guy, whose name is Teeter, with a beat up F150, a box of Band Aids, and an ice pack  leftover ice that will be chilling his 12 pack of Natty Light.) GASCAR has been given access to the short version of the Nurburgring GP circuit. Wells Fargo has taken a break from their busy schedule of repoing houses they don't hold the mortgages on to give GASCAR some funds to buy the previously mentioned 12 pack of Natty.

The race will be held on Sunday, September 1st @ 1005pm ET(note: This is after Breaking Bad.). We will start with a three lap qualifying session to determine starting order.

If you haven't declared your car, or worse yet begun testing, get a move on.

ps GASCAR is working on some prizes to celebrate what is likely the last championship on Forza 4.

The official dibs list is kept on the car list spreadsheet until after the first race to minimize the work GASCAR has to do on the page. Please, consult the list before declaring dibs.

ps Viking, unless you are teaming with Ford, you can't have the Solstice either because he claimed that on Saturday, 8/17. BTW, we want you two to team up to watch the most epic team meltdown in GASCAR history.

Currently, Bad is listed as the rights owner to the Porsche 911. However, I declare that I called dibs on the Porsche 911 first. Below are the pictures if like to enter into evidence so my rights can be awarded to me.

Exhibit B: The rules clearly state to inform Mini, Ford, or Top to call dibs. Please see the below picture which clearly shows that I called dibs on the Porsche via text message with Top Fuel. No where do the rules limit which forms of electronic communication can be used.

I believe i have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that i selected the Porsche first and Top was negligent in his duties as a Gascar administrator. Ladies and Gentleman of the juror the Porsche rightfully belongs to me. Thank you.

Points System Update etc.

The points system has been revised to benefit all drivers due to the increased interest in GASCAR for this next season. This new system will put a greater emphasis on finishing on or near the podium but will also give the opportunity for scoring an extra point or two in the back 2/3 of the field. The change in points paid beyond 10th could spice up the action in the back as well. You never know when you will need that one extra point! The lap lead bonus will remain intact. Please, see the rules tab for information about the points. The points system also appears as a tab in the schedule/scoring spreadsheet.

With regards to car selection, several drivers and teams have already claimed cars.  The Dibs section in the sidebar will not be updated until the season starts(at which time car changes will be in effect). In the meantime, visit the car list spreadsheet to see which cars have been claimed and by whom. If you are a privateer and see a car you desire has been claimed by another privateer, that would be a good time to see if they would like to form a team. There is a constructors' championship.

Let's target the week of September 1 for the first race. A formal announcement as to date and time will follow.

I count 15 committed drivers thus far. The poll results indicate a preference for Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday evening(9-11pm ET starts) racing. We will be a bit flexible on this as to allow maximum participation. The date of the first race has not been set.

Rule announcement:
Concerning car selection - The Renault Clio V6 will be allowed as it should have been on the list to begin with. This is what happens when I am doing this stuff by myself. (edit: I just looked at the list and the car was listed the whole time.) However, any car that has to ADD weight to make it into the specifications will NOT be allowed.

Some of the GASCAR "executive" committee are working on a B-Class formula for what could be the finale for GASCAR on the XBox 360. The formula and car choices will be published well in advance of the series start. Dibs rules will apply as usual.

Here is your opportunity to vote for the tracks to be used in the series. The order of the series and which races will be double points races is TBD. The soft target for the series start date is September 6th.(Would Sunday nights be better than Friday nights? Please, comment below.)

TopFuelMan Secures 4th GASCAR Title!

VinDoctor Captures His Third Win.

Qualifying went about as expected for the PBR 4 Health GP @ Road America. VinDoctor eeked out the pole over his BMW M5 driving teammate, Xterminator, by laying down a 2:18.7. Ford qualified ahead of TopFuel bouying his hopes to move into second place in the season points.

The race did not settle down quickly. The BMW's rocketed away but 3rd through 9th were packed up pretty tightly for the first three laps. This was, of course, accompanied by the usual yelling and laughter.  DJ pulled away from TopFuel as Trigga was trying to track the latter down. Ford and MINI traded spots for sixth a couple of times before MINI pulled away a bit.

In what proved to be the call of the race, the two leaders decided to go on a one stop strategy. This forced everyone to follow suit. Given the 4 mile length of Road America that made tire wear a real issue after 7 laps. 

Trigga began to track TopFuel down towards the end of the first stint. MINI had gapped Ford even further as all the cars began to move at about the speed of smell or a snail(Turbo we were not.). On lap 10 MINI clocked himself at 105mph in the middle of the kink. Contrast that speed with the 122mph he was going just a few laps before. All cars dove for the pits at the end of lap 10 to trade the black grease strips around their wheels for actual tires.

Ford was unable to track down MINI and his teammate, Stauburst lagged out. TopFuel, having found a bit of speed was able to track DJ down and brought Trigga with him. A battle ensued but everyone held station at the end of the 20 lap race.

VinDoctor traded spots with Xterminator a couple of times but was seemingly on cruise control while claiming his third win in GASCAR.

TopFuel's fourth place finish assured him of his fourth GASCAR title. His reward will be having his PI restriction lifted for the last race at Infineon NASCAR on June 21. That race will also decide who finishes second in points with DJ just 2 points behind MINI. But Ford's move back to fourth, and the cooresponding bump up in PI may lift him over the other two.

FU NSA GP @ Suzuka

Last night the second and final double points race for GASCAR's Spring 2013 A Class Series was held at Suzuka. VinDoctor21 aka Boris Said once again took the poll in his bullet of a BMW M5. DJ wasn't far back in P2 and the other 8 drivers were trying to figure out how to get on the podium. Instink lagging out during qualifying put a very fast Mercedes 190E on the back of the grid.

The usual shuffle occurred on lap 1 while Vin tried to run away and hide. Mini moved to P2 Stauburst's "brave" move under braking going into the hairpin chicane off the back straightaway caused him to move off line. Mini went into the braking zone in P2 and came out of the chicane in P8.

The race settled down for the next several laps despite some very close racing from second through eighth. True to form for GASCAR a caution was eventually called. About half the field pitted declaring for a two stop strategy at that point. 

There were a couple of more cautions in the next six laps before Mini and TopFuelMan sensed an opportunity under green for pitting and running until the end around little traffic. It was all setting up well until Instink mysteriously slowed and turned left in front of Mini in the esses bringing out another caution. So much for strategy.

The next six laps brought about some furious racing and lack of respect between teammates(Ford!). VinDoctor pulled away for the win with DJ and TopFuelMan rounding out the podium. 

Going into the race at Road America on Friday, 6/14, at 11pmET TopFuel will look to mathematically clinch his fourth GASCAR title while Ford and Mini will try to narrow the gap.

After witnessing the magic the happened during the Indy Lights Freedom 100 on Friday(video), GASCAR was hoping to thrill the crowd with a similar show. Of note, Proof missed the driver's meeting(Am I repeating myself?) and was forced to start from the rear. DJ captured the poll from MINI in the waning seconds of qualifying but the non-draft speeds of the spec R2 Lexus SC430s were separated by only 1.5 seconds.

In the first 25 lap race, only two of the nine racers did not lead a lap. Late in the race the pair of Trigga and DJ proved to be the dominate drafting team. MINI was trying to latch on to the back of them but had a battle going with Stauburst for the last podium spot. Trigga captured the win with DJ behind. Stauburst missed out on the podium by 0.0004 seconds to MINI. TopFuel finished dead last after a late race bobble. Newcomer, VinDoctor21, had a strong showing but had a late incident that pushed him back in the field.

The field was inverted and had a rolling start for the second race. TopFuel was hoping to score some points and stabilize his points lead. There were two early cautions which then led to what was possibly the longest green flag on an oval in GASCAR history. The last 15 laps were run under green. There were a few single car incidents but GASCAR's "Sorry, about your luck!" rule left those drivers digging to find a drafting partner to pull them back to the front.

In the end a five car pack was fighting for the lead, but in the end Trigga managed to hold off the field, including a charging VinDoctor to capture his second win of the night.

Next GASCAR returns to making right and left turns at Mugello GP on May 31st at 11pm ET.

JC Penney GP @ Mazda Laguna Seca Recap

"TopFuelMan to be severely punished!"

GASCAR, as usual, reached into the bottom of the barrel for a sponsor when the faltering retail giant stepped up with a no money paid sponsorship deal for the May 17th GASCAR A Class race at Laguna Seca.

TopFuelMan looked to be the star of the show heading into qualifying only to have DJ steal his thunder despite his car being slightly neutered. The rest of the line up was pretty chalk with the exception of Ford starting near the back because he could not register a clean lap during the 3 lap qualifying session.

The race started after much screwing around to get the live feed, http://www.twitch.tv/gascarraces , up and running so TriggaMike could watch. DJ and Top almost immediately started duking it out for the lead. Ford and Mini had were wondering about who was going to take the third step on the podium. Stauburst and Proof, in a Dodge Neon of all things, were battling it out for fifth while BadRiver struggled with understeer in his Lexus IS350.

The race, set for 30 laps, looked to be settling in after a caution on lap 3. Tire wear was going to be an issue with multiple pit strategies in play.

However, DJ's internet exploded on lap 9. The decision was made to restart the race with 20 to go after allowing DJ to rejoin the room. Tire wear would still be a factor but it wasn't going to be nearly the same challenge.

Ford lead a lap while TopFuel pitted. Mini also lead a lap, due to some F1 style team orders shenanigans. That set up a brief tussle with DJ and Top but the latter eventually pulled away.

Because he was in first place in points before the race and he captured the win, TopFuelMan will now carry a permanent 5 PI handicap for the rest of the season, with the exception of the oval race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This handicap will be on top of whatever handicap is associated with his current points position at the time current race.

"Did you miss Ned's Atomic Dustbin?..."

"...Then you FUCKED UP!"

So read a t-shirt for the late 80's/early 90's band from England. One could say the same for last night's Double Points 71 at Road Atlanta. Both versions of the track North of Georgia's capital city routinely produce solid racing for GASCAR and last night's race around the full circuit was no exception.

Qualifying was only slightly eventful. TopFuelMan took the poll with Ford and Mini not far behind. Stauburst surprised after the previous race's lackluster effort with a P4 effort. Trigga was fast but failed to register a clean lap thus relegating him to start near the back. Proof was forced to start last after missing the driver's meeting.

Despite the mad scramble that is usually, turn one, lap one at Road Atlanta the field made it through largely unscathed. Mini slid into the lead after Ford and Top drove wide. There was some beating and banging but nothing major. Lap 3 saw the races first caution as TriggaMike had his first of a couple trips on to his roof. Mini ducked into the pits knowing that fresh tires were going to be critical for this race. In doing so, he gave up the lead to TopFuel.

The restart was fairly clean but there was another caution a few laps later. Both Top and Mini pitted at this time allowing BadRiver to lead a lap as he brought the field back to green.

Around lap 20, Top and Mini, in their Holdens, were the class of the field with Ford in third. A debate had broken out about when to pit under green. The debate was settled by another caution. This writer will blame it on Trigga flipping again because it is the most likely scenario.

The entire field pitted this time as they prepared for the final sprint to the finish. Well, they thought it would be a sprint. Ford was determined to be a factor and Staubrust's Lexus ISF was settling in nicely should anyone falter. The restart was exciting but Top and Mini pulled away again. Lap 23 saw a very respectful tussle between the two teammates as they vied for the lead.

With cautions ending near the end of lap 26, Top and Mini, after swapping the lead a bit, were just hoping to make it that far and leave the field behind. Best laid plans and all that...

A caution was declared as Mini and Top had just reached the back straightaway. Ford at this time declared he was going to regain his moniker of "Mr. Excitement". (Cue the ominous music.)

The restart was a mad dash to turn one with the field knowing there would be no more cautions. Mini slipped into the lead and was pushing to get to the back stretch and use his power to gap the field. Behind him all hell had broken loose. Proof's Aston Martin Rapide came from nowhere into third. Ford punted his teammate(drama?), Stauburst, and Top was just trying to navigate the mess. Somewhere, Trigga was cursing out his Mercedes.

Mini was able to pull away for an "easy" win with TopFuel making it an AndrettiFuel top 2 and Ford rounding out the podium.

Double Points 71 at Road Atlanta This Week

After a week off, GASCAR's Spring 2013 Series will return to the track this week for 71 miles(28 laps) at Road Atlanta on Friday May 10, 11pm ET . With each position paying double points, the drivers will likely give and expect no quarter. This is a great week to solidify your points position or greatly improve your current lot.

Pre-functory Recap from Hockenheim Race

Top and Ford had a spirited battle for the pole with Top besting Ford on the last qualifying lap.

Top and Ford battled for the lead in the early stages. Then Top took over. Viking lead a lap during pit stops.  Top won handily with no challenge from Ford nor Viking.

Spring 2013 Race 1 Recap aka TopFuelMan Threw It Away

The most recent GASCAR season got off to its usual auspicious beginning. Only six drivers showed up(Is the economy effecting GASCAR sponsorship?) and the race started on time, I mean a half an hour late.

During pre-race practice it looked as if Fordv2 was going to be the class of the field along with TopFuelMan and DJ. However, a quick pre-race inspection revealed that his rocket of a Ford Fusion was illegal at 2700 pounds as opposed to the mandated minimum 3000. (Insert laugh track here.) Ford had to scramble in the garage to make his car legal before qualifying.

During qualifying it became clear that TopFuel and DJ would be the class of the field with TopFuel taking the pole. DJ wasn't far behind. Mini, Ford, TriggaMike(Welcome back Airman!), and BadRiver were figuring out who was going to challenge for third.

Considering the nasty hairpin that is Turn 1 at the Nurburging GP course, the race got off to a relatively clean start. Top, in his Holden HSV GTS, and DJ, in a Lotus Carlton, instantly started battling for the lead with Mini within striking distance should one of them falter. Ford wasn't far behind in fourth while he became accustomed to his slapdash tune. After a couple of laps, things settled down with Top and DJ each leading for several laps. Ford fell behind Mini by several seconds. Trigga was similarly behind Ford and Bad likewise behind Trigga.

Around lap 12 tire wear became an issue for the top 2. They started sliding around and there was a lot of yelling from DJ and Top. All those behind, were hopeful for the race's first caution. It never came. Top gave up the ghost on lap 14 and pitted along with Mini. DJ stayed out hoping to gap TopFuel, a strategy which really did backfire. With fresh rubber, Top almost instantly started whittling away DJ's lead after dispatching Ford, who for a moment thought about gambling with a no stop race. DJ pitted at the end of the lap and it looked at that point as though he had lost the race.

Until lap 19. Top had a solid 2-3 second lead on DJ with no other challengers in sight. Heading back up the hill from the hairpin TopFuel dragged his car through the dirt in the fast but tricky chicane. DJ closed in. Then Top botched the chicane at the end of the long back straightaway and DJ was on Top of him. Now, DJ's Lotus with newer tires would shine. He was just better enough in the corners to hold off the power of Top's Holden on the straightaways. Coming down the the last corner, Top was all over DJ's bumper but he spun the tires coming out of the corner and it was just enough for DJ to beat him in the drag race to the line.

Champion's Interview

GASCAR: How does it feel to win the GASCAR Championship
DJ: It's like eating the tastiest cheeseburger in the world...with fries...oh yeah.

GASCAR: Ford gave you a very good fight, how does it feel to beat him?
DJ: Well, it feels all right all of the Dunkin Donut team worked real hard and it feels good, Ford was a good opponent.

GASCAR: Ok, what do you really think about Ford?
DJ: Ahhh, hmmmmm, What do I think about Ford?... it was a good time.

GASCAR: Have you used the line "I'm a GASCAR Champion" to pick up girls yet?
DJ: I have not yet, but I'm gonna do I the next time I go to get a cheeseburger.

GASCAR: Seeing how you have now reaching the pinnacle of gaming excellence, and likely life, what do you plan on doing now?
DJ: I'm gonna shake up a bottle of root beer and spray it all over everything, then i'm gonna eat 3 cheeseburgers and continue to celebrate.

GASCAR: And finally, who would you rather leave your girlfriend with, Kobe or Ben Roethlisberger?
DJ: Ahhhhhhhhh....ummmmmmmmm...With the great words of the three time champion Top Fuel, I say Kobe Bryant.

Tsukuba and Season Finale

Another season has wrapped and this time with a new champion. DJ was able to fend off Ford to claim his first ever GASCAR Championship and deny Ford his 3rd.

DJ snuck in on the last lap to steal the pole, the point, and make Ford's championship hopes that much more dim. The race started simple enough with Viking off to another early lead. Ford had to work to get around him as Top and DJ closed the gap. Eventually, the Ford and DJ began to separate from the rest of the pack. After a number of attempts, DJ was finally able to work around Ford and never looked back. Ford held onto to second after fending off Viking. Top's attempt to win put him in 4th as Mini followed him in 5th. The rest were as follows:

And since we crowned a champion this week, that would mean we've also closed another successful GASCAR season. Thanks to everyone who competed, do some recruiting, and we'll see you next year.
